Gary is our Internal Talent Manager and he’s had a progressive career in his now 10th year in recruitment. Prior to this, he’s worked as an IT technician and in Quality Assurance for an Aerospace company.
Unlike the common answer of ‘falling into recruitment’, Gary wanted to make the move into the industry after seeing success first hand from a friend. He learnt the trade working for a national recruiter before joining Niyaa People as a consultant in 2012.
He left us for a short while, but it wasn’t long before he came back to head-up our internal recruitment and L&D.
What’s your time been like at Niyaa People so far?
“I joined Niyaa People back in 2012, back then we had some tiny offices with just 5 or 6 of us. I worked on our Architecture team, recruiting predominantly into national House Builders and Interiors Design firms. After an 18-month absence from the company, I came back at the start of 2018 to take up the mantle of Talent Manager.”
What do you like about your job?
“I love working with people who are fresh to the industry. Giving them the training and support they need and seeing them go through the milestones, overcoming challenges and celebrating their first wins is incredibly rewarding.”
What advice would you give to someone coming into recruitment?
“Commit yourself entirely, be a sponge, and don’t beat yourself up when you make mistakes, learn from it.”
